the story

A long, long time ago, there was a man named Moses. Moses was in the desert taking care of his father-in-law’s sheep.

While Moses was walking, he noticed something truly amazing! There was a bush that was glowing with fire, but guess what? The leaves and branches were not burning up at all!!

As Moses looked at the burning bush, he said to himself, "I need to go closer and see why the bush is not burning up!"

But as he got closer, a kind voice came from the bush! The voice said, “Moses, Moses!” It was God talking to him! God told Moses to take off his sandals because he was standing on holy ground.

God shared with Moses that He had seen His people, the Israelites, in trouble and He wanted to help them. He chose Moses for a very special job: to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into a promised land.

Moses felt unsure, but God promised to be with him every step of the way and even showed Moses some miracles to help him believe!

Burning Bush Whisper

Instructions:

• Have the children sit in a circle or line up.

• Whisper a short message related to the burning bush story to the first child. For instance: "Moses, Moses." or "Take off your sandals!"

• Each child then whispers what they heard to the next child.

• The last child announces the message they heard.

• Compare the final message to the original to see how closely they match.

This game highlights the challenges of communication and the importance of listening carefully, just as Moses listened to God's instructions.
